Profile of a painter and photographer

I have a working past into which, in my imagination, I retreat when I am painting or writing. An assistant personnel officer, a soldier, a professional dancer, trainee manager in a printing works, salesman (total failure, only lasted six months), employment relations specialist, employment law adviser, troubleshooter, company director (construction), redundant, secretary of an employers association. Nothing to do with art but providing me with a fantastic variety of backgrounds from which to develop my artwork.

I now work from Cromer in Norfolk, UK a place of magnificent coastal beauty. I paint whatever turns me on at the time, but over 80% of my works contain the face or figure, and I like every work to tell a story, not just mine, but something which turns the viewers imagination on. Every painting of this nature should contain a series of clues from which the viewer can determined his or her own story.

To regard a painting in this way, I believe, challenges the viewer and can increase enjoyment.

I am influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites especially the works of Edward Coley Burne-Jones, also as a complete contrast the work of Nicola Simbari.

PHOTOGRAPHY
One model I employed is also a photographer and she got me turned on to that craft. So in addition to painting and drawing I also like to create digital artwork.

CHARITIES
I contribute to three charities, 'Starlight Children's Foundation', Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and NSPCC.
